Sue’s Pet Care: Building a pet care brand around trust, kindness and reliability

Sue’s Pet Care came to Finbo Studio for a full strategic rebrand and website design.

The business itself isn’t new. Sue had spent more than a decade building a trusted pet care service, supported by an experienced team and a strong reputation across Tamworth, Swadlincote and surrounding areas.

That created an interesting branding challenge.

We didn’t need to invent a personality or manufacture a reason for people to care. The good stuff was already there.

Our job was to find it, define it and build a pet care brand that could carry Sue’s reputation into its next stage of growth.

The result is a warmer, more distinctive identity built around three simple words:

Approachable, Reliable and Kind.

And, yes, the new logo has legs. Literally. Because a huge USP of Sue’s is that they come to you, looking after your pets in their own home, and the team do a fair bit of walking so it seemed like the obvious choice.

The challenge: a business that had outgrown its brand

Sue’s Pet Care had changed considerably since the business began.

What started with Sue had grown into a team of 12 experienced pet care professionals, providing support 365 days a year.

Services had expanded too.

The team now provides: Dog walking, Cat sitting, Overnight pet stays and home visits, Small animal care, Equine care and their newest offering, Wedding dog chaperone services

With a fully qualified dog trainer on the team, everyone being pet first aid trained and certified, DBS checks and full insurance, they had all of the big trust signals in place too.

The existing brand simply wasn’t communicating the scale, experience or quality of the business behind it.

And there was another challenge.

The name is Sue’s Pet Care.

Sue wanted to keep it.

So how do you grow a business named after its founder without making every client feel they need Sue personally?

That became one of the most important questions within the pet care rebrand.

Making Sue’s bigger than Sue

We didn’t want to remove Sue from the brand.

Sue is a huge part of why the business has the reputation it has today. She has spent her life around animals, including dogs, cats and horses, and animal welfare genuinely shapes the decisions she makes.

Her rescue cat Merlin is an important part of that story too.

So rather than trying to make Sue less important, we looked at what Sue represents.

Warmth, reliability and practical kindness.

The feeling that if Sue says your pet will be cared for, you can stop worrying.

That gave us a much stronger direction.

Sue could become a standard rather than simply a person.

The team could carry that standard forward.

Suddenly the name Sue’s Pet Care wasn’t restricting growth. It gave us the foundation for it.

Finding the USP

One of the biggest parts of any pet care rebrand is working out what genuinely makes a business different.

Most pet care companies talk about loving animals. Most promise great care. Most have friendly photos of dogs and cats.

Finding what made Sue’s Pet Care stand apart was surprisingly simple.

The team.

Over the last 11 years, Sue has built a team of 12 experienced pet care professionals who all work to the same standards. That gives clients something many independent pet care businesses struggle to offer: consistency, reliability and peace of mind.

If somebody is on holiday, unwell or unavailable, care doesn’t stop.

That reliability became one of the foundations of the new brand and led to the creation of ARK, a simple framework built around three values that define the business today:

Approachable. Reliable. Kind.

These values now shape everything from hiring and training to customer service, marketing and day-to-day decision making.

Bringing the Brand to Life

With the strategy in place, we created a visual identity that reflected the experience clients already knew and loved.

The goal wasn’t to create something corporate or overly polished. It needed to feel warm, welcoming and familiar.

Soft colours, hand-drawn illustrations and friendly typography help communicate the care and reassurance at the heart of the business, while the playful logo adds a subtle nod to one of Sue’s biggest strengths: the team comes to you.

The website followed the same thinking.

Rather than focusing solely on dog walking, we created dedicated pages for every service, including cat sitting, overnight stays, small animal care, equine care and wedding chaperoning.

Clear navigation, stronger messaging and an online enquiry system now make it easier for potential clients to find the right service and get in touch.

Results

Although the project is still relatively new, the impact has already been noticeable. the feedback from clients and peers has been overwhelmingly positive.

The new website has helped streamline enquiries and reduce the amount of time spent managing bookings and admin, giving Sue and the team more time to focus on the animals in their care.

The clearer structure also makes it easier for visitors to understand the full range of services available, helping generate enquiries across multiple areas of the business rather than dog walking alone.

Most importantly, demand continues to grow.

The business receives regular enquiries through the website and has reached a point where Sue is actively looking at expanding the team further to meet demand.

It was about giving a well-established business the tools, systems and identity to support its next stage of growth while staying true to the values that built its reputation in the first place.
